Potenza is the highest region capital of Italy and in winter there are abundant snowfalls. The beating heart of the city is Pretoria street, and Mario Pagano square is the city meeting place, where there is the Theatre dedicated to the “Lucanian” musician Francesco Stabile.

The National Archaeological Museum of Basilicata is housed in the prestigious Palazzo Loffredo, dedicated to Rumanian archaeologist Dinu Adamesteanu, first superintendent of Basilicata.
Today the old town preserves different periods buildings and ruins. Walking along Pretoria street is a full immersion of city vibrancy and its inhabitants. The little streets and hidden corners allow the curious visitor to find out small workshops and prestigious historical buildings, to recognize the signs marked by a long history and thanks to stubbornness of Potenza inhabitants who rebuild the city despite the numerous earthquakes.
Potenza is nowadays an important industrial center of Basilicata, a market for the products of the surrounding agricultural territory, with food industry, but also footwear and timber industries. It’s a city where the largest tertiary sector is continuously expanding and evolving.
